Here is the simple hummus recipe from scratch. Here are the ingredients required to make the traditional hummus using chickpeas and beans in super easy steps.
Let’s have a look at the ingredients which you require to prepare the hummus:
- 1 can (15 oz.) of chickpeas or garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained.
- 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil.
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice.
- 2-4 tbsp water.
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 garlic clove minced
- 3/4 tbsp. ground cumin.
- 1/4 to 1/2 tbsp salt.
Step 1: Add the ingredients into a food blender and let it blend until the texture is smooth and creamy.
Step 2: Add water as per the requirement if the mixture is too thick. Add lemon juice or salt if required.
Step 3: Transfer the mixture into a bowl. Drizzle it with pumpkin seed oil, chickpeas, sunflower and mint sprigs.
Step 4: Your hummus is now ready to eat. Serve it with vegetables, crackers or pita bread.

Here I am going to provide you with the recipe of lemon white hern dip and going to use white cannelini beans instead of chickpeas.
This recipe takes under five minutes to prepare. I have used a lot of rosemary and thyme in my recipe, but you can experiment with other herbs as well.

How To Make The Hummus
Step 1: Drain and rinse the beans and out it in a food processor.
Step 2: Next, heat the olive oil in a skillet. Add garlic, thyme and cook for about 1 minute, until the aroma starts to appear.
Step 3: Transfer the olive oil and herbs to the food processor.
Step 4: Now create a puree until the consistency becomes smooth. Add lemon juice.
Step 5: Add salt and pepper to taste.
Now your hummus is ready to be served. You can prepare this during parties, or for a quick snack to pack for lunch.
Although hummus is available in the supermarket, you can prepare a better hummus recipe at home. Here we shall provide you with an easy hummus recipe from the scratch along with the hummus ingredients. So you can make your own variations to it and stock it up so that there is no worry of it getting finished easily.
First, we shall have a look at the recipe for preparing the tahini:
Recipe For Tahini
As I have told you earlier, tahini is a sauce made from toasted and crushed sesame seeds. It is really easy to make and only takes 5-10 minutes. Here is the recipe for making tahini:
Sesame seeds- Usually the sesame seeds are toasted to bring out their natural crunchy flavour. But you can skip this step if you want to.
Oil- Any neutral- flavour oil such as olive oil, grapeseed oil, etc. will work to give the mixture a creamy, smooth texture.
Salt- It is an optional ingredient, but I always use it to make the tahini taste better.
Step 1: Toast the sesame seeds in a saucepan until they turn slightly brown and the aroma starts coming.
Step 2: After toasting them, transfer them in a food processor and process until a crumbly paste begins to form.
Step 3: Now add few tablespoons of oil to turn the mixture into a smooth, creamy consistency.
Your tahini is now ready to be added to the hummus.
Recipe for Hummus:
Dried Chickpeas – 1 ¼ cups
Baking Soda – 1 tbsp
Water – 6 ½ cups
Light Tahini Paste – 1 cup, plus 2 tbsp
Lemon Juice – 4 tbsp Freshly squeezed
Garlic Cloves – 4 crushed
Ice-Cold water – 6 ½ tbsp
Prep Before Cooking
- A night before you plan to make the hummus, place chickpeas into a bowl and pour cold water over it. Now place a lid over it and let them soak overnight.
- Next day, drain the chickpeas transfer them into a pan. Pour some water and add baking soda.
- Put the chickpeas into a pan and let them cool on a high flame for about 20 to 40 minutes. This will remove the skin off the chickpeas. Squeeze one or two chickpea to check whether they have cooked or not.
Tip: If you want to prepare a smooth hummus paste, then peel the skin of the chickpeas. Or else you can cook them as it is as well.
- Now set the chickpeas aside to cool.
Preparing the Hummus:
Step 1: Put the chickpeas into a food processor until you achieve a thick and smooth paste.
Step 2: Add tahini paste, lemon juice, garlic, salt and ice water in the paste and process until 5 more minutes. You will get a smooth and creamy paste.
Step 3: Now transfer the contents into a bowl and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
Step 4: Your awesome hummus is now ready to be gorged upon! Serve it immediately or refrigerate it.
